A Super Review: An Array Of Drugstore Mascaras
Since the age of 13, I’d been faithful to CoverGirl when it came to my lashes. I remember my first mascara was the CoverGirl that came in the bright orange bottle, LashBlast Volume. Drew Barrymore was the CoverGirl at the time, so of course I fell in love.
As new mascaras came out, it became increasingly harder to find my "regular". And then, every makeup user’s worst fear...the formula changed.
After that, I was determined to stick to CoverGirl. I tried Full Lash Bloom, which was nice, but didn't give much volume.
Next, I tried The Super Sizer, which made my lashes longer than a wait at the DMV. But also...just as dry. My lashes flaked and clumped. And so I began my search for a new drugstore mascara.
I bought a few mascaras and enlisted a friend for trial and photo purposes.
Our eyes without mascara:
The first mascara I tried was the Rimmel London Scandal Eyes. The name had caught my attention and I’ve never disliked a Rimmel product; in my experience, they are always generally been reliable drugstore products. I would say they sometimes work even better than a stereotypical drugstore cosmetic.
The first mascara my friend tried on was Maybelline Lash Sensation. We felt that it made her lashes look beautiful. It looked like she was wearing falsies. But while it looks really nice initially, very thick and full, it starts to clump and stick together really quickly. It gets sticky and sometimes runs in your eyes!
The final mascara my friend tried on was L’Oreal Voluminous Feline. This one turned out really nicely! It lengthens the lashes, while giving a burst of volume, without looking overwhelming. It looks and feels very natural. It's like a low-key version of the Lash Sensational. It doesn't clump either!
I give it a 4.5/5.
I don't think I found my dream mascara yet, but I had fun looking and am always open to recommendations!
