Bye Bye Brassy Hair: Must-Have Purple Shampoos For Color-Treated Locks

Bye Bye Brassy Hair: Must-Have Purple Shampoos For Color-Treated Locks

To have dyed blonde hair is to know the perils of maintaining dyed blonde hair. And you probably also have experienced damaged, dry and “yellow” hair. It happens and I was a victim too.

However, have no fear! There are tons of products out in the market to keep this brassiness at bay because hair masks, treatments and PURPLE Shampoo will save you. Purple shampoo in particular though, as it eliminates brass and "yellow-ness" in dyed/color treated hair.

The only downside is the fact that if you leave purple shampoo on your hair for too long, your hair might turn purple. Just reading and heeding the directions will all but prevent this though!

Here are my top four recommendations.

1.  Clairol Professional Shimmer Lights Conditioning Shampoo For Blonde & Silver

You can find this classic at Sally Beauty Supply Store. It is inexpensive (around 10 bucks for an 8-ounce bottle) and it was the first purple shampoo my friends and I tried. Personally I am not fond of the smell. But this works for others and they love it. If you are a blonde hair newbie, this is one to try out.

2.  Paul Mitchell Platinum Blonde Shampoo™

This care line is also another inexpensive option that brings the wonders of a hair salon to your bathroom. This purple shampoo helps reduce and minimize the brassiness while softening and adding shine in color-treated hair. Another amazing thing is Paul Mitchell products are not tested on animals.

3.  Joico Color Endure Violet Shampoo

This violet shampoo cleans and maintains color treated, bleached, highlighted or gray hair while neutralizing unwanted brassiness.

It does not have any sulfate, meaning it won't strip away dye from your hair. Joico can be a bit on the pricier side but Ulta often has deals on this line, so you can keep your eyes peeled if you're watching your wallet. I also found this specific Joico shampoo at T.J. Maxx before.

Quick note though; this one should only be used 2-3 times a week.

4.  Fanola No Yellow Shampoo

This is "the one" for me. In my opinion, it's amazing. It’s a little hyped up but it definitely lives up to it all the buzz. After just a couple of uses, I noticed a big difference—my orange streaks were back to an ashy gold blonde.

Now, my hair feels good and looks good. Make sure to wash your tub/shower afterwards though because this shampoo is very pigmented.

Thoughts? I'm listening, lovelies.
