Drawing the Line Between Dupe & The Real Deal: Eyeliner Edition
Lovelies, the only time it is cool to be catty is when it comes to your eyeliner. A good cat eye is more in than ever, leading makeup artists to perfect their wings using improvised tools such as scotch tape and even louboutins(?!).
No matter how straight the surface of your tool is, the winged look would be un-achievable without a great eyeliner—a thin-tipped, yet highly pigmented, eyeliner to be exact. My personal favorites are liquid pens (as opposed to brushes) because when you’re rushing to work or school in the morning, you don’t really have time to fuss with more things. Also, liquid just goes on more precisely and smoothly than gel and pencil liners, which tend to be on the thicker side.
Thus, I’ve tried a few different liquid eyeliners in a journey to find the best one for a reasonable price. Here are a few I’ve used and I’ll let you know if I think the dupe or the real deal wins!
This eyeliner is really precise and easy to draw with! It also applies with heavy intensitey which made it almost perfect. However, the formula was wayyyy different than what you would get with a pricier brand.
Whether it was makeup remover wipes, liquid makeup remover, or face wash—this eyeliner managed to cling onto my skin and invade my eyes. Seriously, this stuff and water just makes a splotchy mess that does not want to leave.
No. This didn’t work for me at all. Very poorly pigmented and designed. The tip is very tiny since they’re trying to to go “super skinny” but it was so small that it was very difficult to draw with without pressing my hand against my cheeks, which messed up my concealer.
This is the eyeliner I would buy time and time again. Easy application, thin yet long tip, bold color; yes please! The packaging is also pretty cute and the little stars on the tube are darling. It glides on pretty effortlessly and makes lining easy. I really don’t have anything bad to say about it, except I use it so much that my $19 investment goes by really quickly.
So what’s my verdict? The real deal, Kat Von D’s Tattoo Liner, takes the cake! It absolutely works and looks the best, without leaving any strange mess. I admit it can be considered a splurge, but the price difference between it and the drugstore brand eyeliners dupes aren’t too great. I definitely recommend at least trying it.
