ipsy’s Generation Beauty 2016: Slay Or Nay?
Bay Area beauty junkies rejoice! ipsy’s two-day makeup event for all beauty lovers, skin care addicts, and makeup connoisseurs just happened this past weekend and I have the scoop to share!
I was lucky enough to attend Generation Beauty SF (it's one of the perks of being an executive editor, I guess!) and let me just say this, if you frequent Sephora or ULTA, follow several MUAs on Instagram, or just down right love all things beauty, this was THE place to be!
Generation Beauty, hosted by beauty-icon-in-the-making Michelle Phan's glam bag empire ipsy, is a one-of-a-kind beauty conference featuring booths and activities from well-known beauty brands, conversations with stylists and gurus, as well as makeovers and tons and tons of FREE goodies!
Here’s what to expect…
Insanely fabulous attendees and experts. Seriously, everyone looked like they walked straight out of an Instagram #LOTD post. I couldn’t help but stare in awe of everyone’s prismatically glowing cheeks and perfectly arched eyebrows
Insanely un-fabulous long lines! LEAVE the heels at home, ladies and gents. Don’t even try it. Not even wedges.
Your beauty idols. Be sure to check the meet and greet times for your favorite MUA stars and get in line accordingly.
Last but not least, a magically unbelievable haul of FREE beauty goodies from brands of all levels of notoriety.
Let’s delve deeper into what happened at Generation Beauty SF 2016. Unfortunately, I was only able to attend Saturday, but believe me I made the day worth it. How the ticket works is that you pick up your gorgeously-colored badge upon entering, complete with a mini sharpie to write down your name or notes along the way.
Each badge comes with an attendee passport, which is a booklet that contains a map of the event as well as perforated tear off tickets of brand names which you will later use to redeem free goodies when you visit that booth!
It was a packed house and often times, booths would have Disneyland-status lines that would be closed off for ten to 30-minute until the line shortened. This was especially true for booths that featured services such as foundation skin tone matching, hair curling, brow shaping, or other product trials.
Besides free goodies, almost all brands had their products for a special expo discounted price. If you know one of your favorite brands will be attending, it would be worthwhile to stockpile your beauty arsenal. Tarte was selling a lot of their products for $10-15 off regular price!
Don’t even get me started about being starstruck, Generation Beauty SF hosted meet and greets with YouTube famous MUAs such as Michelle Phan herself, Karen Yeung, Jaleesa Moses as well as appearances of Patrickstarrr, Manny MUA, Blanca Evette and more. I’m pretty sure some sort of city code noise ordinance was broken by the decibels of excited screams that were unleashed in that building.
Can I get a drum roll please? Because here’s the moment you’ve all been waiting for. Time to take a gander at my enormous haul of beauty goods!
I received full-sized as well as trial-sized products from dozens of different brands including , but not limited to, Tarte, Milani, Luxie, theBalm Cosmetics, NYX, Benefit, Jouer, Laneige, SLMissGlam, ghd, Shea Moisture and so many more! I think I have more products than I can even try. I’m going to have a lot of fun this holiday season experimenting with all the goodies I amassed!
My personal favorites are the tarte brush and ipsy’s custom printed “Brows before beaus” makeup bag, which is exclusive to the event.
So lovelieries, what do I say about Generation Beauty SF? Slay or Nay? Definitely slay! This conference was nothing like anything I’ve even been to before and it’s so refreshing to be around other beauty lovers.
What I think could be improved is the event’s line system, which made it difficult to visit all the brands. If that could be fixed, perhaps the ridiculously long lines could be shortened and therefore be less ridiculous.
You don’t have to take my word for it though. Generation Beauty is headed to Los Angeles early next year, so SoCal, get ready and register today! Other locations are to be announced, so keep checking Generation Beauty’s website!
