Let's Get Gnarly: The Incredible Latosha Stone
Founded in 2012 and based in Greensville, Ohio, Proper Gnar makes merchandise for femme power players, heartbreakers, edgy artists and everyone in between. From "Too Gnar" bodysuits to confetti logo-ed skate boards, this shop certainly knows how to do different well.
Because we are ever-obsessed with picking the brains of budding beauty icons, we sat down with Proper Gnar owner and designer Latosha Stone to see what she had to say about a few things.
Many of your very cool designs and products seem to be statement pieces. What messages are you trying to send to the world through your work?
Some of them are just for fun and sometimes they have a deeper meaning. A lot of empowerment. For example, the "Woman Power" crop is a feminist piece and expresses how women can do whatever they put their mind to.
The same could be said for our No Comply Before Guys hat. "Do Gnarly shit" is about positive vibes and making life an adventure, whatever you do, make it gnarly. I thought "Gnarly Girl Gang" would be a good name for a skate team and the third eye girl drawing was just something I sketched that just went with it.
It's about finding your crew, girls sticking together, lifting each other up and being open-minded. The succubus crop top was a way to reclaim the word and make it badass. What's more badass than eating souls?
How would you describe your beauty/makeup aesthetic in five words or less?
EYELINER, colorful, dark, creative and otherworldly.
Do you have any skater-girl/badass babe beauty tips that you can share with us?
I don't think anyone can ever go wrong with a burgundy lip and a simple cat-eye liquid eyeliner! Two cornrow braids are cute and great at keeping your hair out of your face. I also love to rock a high pony.
Don't be afraid to experiment! I love adding random dots, stars, gems and hearts around the eyes or glitter lips for something different and cute.
