Mascara’s Opening Acts: A Show of Primers
Have you ever been to a concert where the opener was just as good as the main act, maybe even better?! That’s how I feel about mascara primers sometimes. Admittedly, I hate adding more items and thus spending more money on my daily routine—I mean, who doesn’t?
But mascara primers can really make or break your lash look. No matter how great your mascara is, a primer can help separate lashes and create a base for your mascara to apply easier and last longer.
Here are a few primers on the stage. I’ll tell you how they performed!
This is actually my favorite primer. It’s super easy to apply, glides on smoothly and effortlessly, and makes my lashes look so much longer! This also often comes with a trial tube of Tarte’s lights, camera, lashes™ mascara, which is a bonus. The only reason I feel guilty about repurchasing this is due to its $22 price tag, which is as much as an actual mascara.
I decided to try this because it’s a bit cheaper than Tarte’s Opening Act Lash Primer and I really enjoy other Clinique products. Unfortunately, I wasn’t very impressed with this primer. It really didn’t do much for my lashes, it maybe even made them look straighter and kind of sad.
Yes! Last but not least, our drugstore option. This is a great alternative for mascara primer if you’re not trying to pay over $10. It doesn’t glide on as well or look as splendid as the Tarte lash primer, but for $8.99 this comes pretty darn close. This is perfect for penny-pinching folks.
