#SmearForSmear: All The Details

#SmearForSmear: All The Details

In honor of Cervical Cancer Prevention Week, the Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust ran a worldwide social media campaign called #smearforsmear in order to raise awareness on cervical cancer on January 28th.

Women were encouraged to post a selfie of themselves wearing smeared lipstick on their lips and to spread this snap around online. The campaign’s was goal was to get as many women as possible to the doctor’s office for their smear test.

Some alarming numbers posted on their website include...2, 9, and 35; 2 represents the number of women who die from this type of cancer every day, 9 represents the number of women who are diagnosed with the disease every day and 35 stands for the most common form of cancer diagnosis among women 35 or younger. Harrowing.

Well, #smearforsmear2018 racked up more than 300 selfie posts on Instagram! Impressive.

The campaign also received some male supporters!

Oh and because of this movement, I also went and got my test done!
