The Best Highlighters for Darker Skin Tones, Tested
As someone with an Indian complexion, I know just how hard it can be to find makeup that suits a darker skin tone since, as Jamelia rightly pointed out a few months ago, the beauty industry still largely ignores it women of color consumers. I love highlighters and strobing, so when I found this list of highlighters, I knew I had to test them out.
This product looks beautiful and you don’t have to use too much of it. That being said, the design is a bit flawed. The brush is really rough and it’s hard to actually get product to come out. Also, Platinum is the darkest shade in this line and it’s still, at best, for a medium skin tone. I wasn’t too satisfied with this product for the not-so-cheap price.
Bronze: I really liked this because it blended nicely and lasted forever. It accentuated my face quite nicely and was buildable. It was a bit too shimmery for my liking, though.
Glow: Though this also lasted throughout the day, it wasn’t my favorite because it was too orange-y in my opinion.
Rating: 4/5 + 3/5
Overall, I was very happy with this product. It was light and naturally shimmery, which made my skin look fresh and dewy. It’s a high-end product, so it is a bit pricey, but seeing as how a little went a long way, I’d say it’s worth it as it stayed on all day. My only complaints would be that, while it went on well alone, when I was wearing foundation underneath, it was a bit hard to blend. Also, the glitter had migrated a bit by the end of the day, but I think some setting powder would do the trick there.
The colors become more pink as the numbers increase, so 18 is a copper shade and 14 is more bronze. I have pink undertones, so 17 was the one I chose. It is a pink-brown with a gold shimmer and it gave me a glow while adding just a touch of color.
Super thrilled with this duo! The shades were perfect for my skin tone. The highlighter is a pinky peach and the bronzer is a deep brown that I can use to contour. They were so weightless and looked incredibly natural. The highlighter really accentuated my cheekbones and facial structure really nicely without looking obvious at all. Both stayed on all day, so no complaints here!
The contour was really nice, a deep, warm, creamy brown that blended and built nicely. It gave my cheeks a pop of color while shaping them. However, I didn’t like the highlighter because, for some reason, it was really dry and flaky. Just to make sure it wasn’t just that one specific stick, I tried several others and got the same result. The pigmentation and shade were also unnatural and orange-y. I would buy this for the contour and just get a separate highlighter!
Hopefully this review saves you some time and money, lovelies!
