The Perfect Nail Shape: An Exploration Of Options
Making a trip to the nail salon can be a distressing experience. Deciding on how long you want your nails to be (not to mention what color and what style them to be) is often tricky as hell.
Something I have found to be the most difficult to decide on when getting a new set of acrylic nails is the shape. The shape is a huge commitment! That is why I am going to share my three favorite shapes—and which nail types they are best for with you.
An almond-shaped nail is best for slimming a nail. It adds length and slenderness to the nail, making it look longer. This shape is a great stepping stone to more intense choices too!
A ballerina shape, also known as a coffin shape, (as seen below on @stephgmacedo) is rather similar to an almond shape nail. The top is filed down to be flat as opposed to the round tip the almond shape has.
This coffin/ballerina shaped nail is best for long nails and nails with long nail beds. This shape requires a strong nail because of the filing down it takes to get the flattened top.
This shape is very bold, I would recommend this shape to acrylic-nail-masters who have had tried out their fair share of shapes, lengths and sizes.
It's universal; it works for both long and short nails. But, beware, as this shape can make a wide nail bed look stubby because of the squared look.
I would recommend this shape to nail "new-comers" and people who are in the mood to try something different. It’s easy and cute!
Next time you are overdue for a manicure or fill and stumped on what shape to get, remember these shapes for an easier, stress-free visit!
